Cellular Credit Card Machine
Cellular Credit Card Machines allow the merchant to be almost completely mobile. The reason we say "almost" is they (POS) Point of Sale Terminals run off the cellular phone networks (GPRS) and are only functional in those networks. Before you invest in a cellular POS Terminal you will want to find out what cell phone data network they use to make their cellular units mobile and then go to the cell phone's website and see what the signal strength is for the GPRS in the areas you plan on doing transactions.
Most majors cities should be fine, but some small towns or low populated areas may not have a good signal strength for the GPRS and if your cellular credit card machine can't catch a signal then it basically makes it obsolete or virtually useless. If this is the case in the area you plan on doing transactions then you may want to run with a ARU- which will allow you to use the old school knuckle busters and you will have to phone in for authorization on your credit card transactions.
The benefit of a cellular unit over an IVR/ARU program is that you can usually qualify for the card present rates and also accept debit cards, which usually always lower your user end fees because debit transactions are usually only a per transaction fee in Canada.
